Happy Virtual Assistant Week!

Advantages of hiring a Virtual Assistant /Virtual PA

  • They have their own office and equipment, the client is not responsible for maintaining hardware, software, heating, lighting, refreshments etc.
  • They can be more flexible than office based staff.
  • Low minimum hours per week/month
  • Clients only pay for the hours actually worked, not breaks.
  • No additional costs such as NI, holiday pay, sick pay, agency fees – their hourly rate is the price you pay (excluding expenses)
  • They have done these tasks many times, you will not need to spend additional time training, or supervising.
  • Your chosen Virtual Assistant /Virtual PA cares about your business like you do.

Below is a cost comparison of an in house assistant and a Virtual Assistant:

In House Assistant Virtual Assistant
Hourly Rate £15.00 £25.00
Benefits (35%) £5.25 0
Overheads (50%) £7.50 £0.00
True Hourly Rate £27.75 £25.00

You will notice than initially the in house assistant is £10 per hour cheaper than the Virtual Assistant, but Virtual Assistants fees are what you pay, if you employ an in house assistant, or hire a temp, there are additional costs involved, increasing their hourly rate to more than what a Virtual Assistant is charging.

You also need to bear in mind that the in house employee/temp will be contracted to work a set number of hours per week for example 20 during these hours, they will require breaks, so the 20 hours you are paying for is not 100% productive time – and if it is quiet, you may find yourself having to search for tasks for them to do – I have been employed as an in house administrative temp in the past and have been asked to do such things as clean the cupboard out and even cook bacon sandwiches for everyone in the office, which included shopping! (I didn’t complain at all!)

If however you outsource your tasks to a virtual assistant then not only will the time they are working on your projects being 100% productive, you will find that you only need them for half of the time of an in house Virtual Assistant.

In House Assistant Virtual Assistant
True Hourly Rate £27.75 £25.00
Weekly Hours 20 10
Weekly Cost
£555 £250.00

You can see from the above table that hiring a Virtual Assistant can save you £305 per week for the same output of work.

Well the figures certainly look appealing for a Virtual Assistant.  I suppose the recruitment process would be similar to an in-house assistant, maybe minus the interview process.

Your Virtual Assistant is always available to handle your seasonal or special, one-time projects and the best is you don’t have the responsibilities associated with employee policies on working hours, vacation time, sick time, leave of absence, holidays, benefits, performance reviews, training, etc.
